A pencil drawing of the WWI Memorial to the fallen German soldier, on the facade of St John’s Church in Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany. Created by Georg Müller in 1926.
Depicts a naked German soldier horseback, wearing a Stahlhelm (‘steel helmet’) and holding a sword with its tip broken (inclining he was wounded fighting in battle).
This statue is focused around proportion, poise, and the idealized perfection of the human body. Its aesthetic attitude is based on the art of Greece and Rome in antiquity.
