A pencil drawing of a bronze statuette of The Fencer (German : Der Fechter), also known as “The Allach Fencer”, designed by Ottmar Obermaier, introduced in 1938. The creation of «Der Fechter» is generally attributed to Reinhard Heydrich, who was of course an avid fencer.
The Fencer combines artistic elegance with technical excellence and establishes the little-known porcelain manufacturer, ‘Allach-Munchen GmBH’ at the forefront of 20th century European porcelain. Less than 500 porcelain pieces of The Fencer are believed to have been produced. Many identical statues were also created in bronze.
Dressed in loose briefs, The Fencer stands proudly on a square base, with one arm against the body, and the other holding the sabre. The base to the figure gives the artist name, O.Obermaier.
The Fencer is of great rarity today, being sought after both by collectors from the world of militaria, and by those that have a great interest in the subject matter.
Obermaier was represented in the Great German Art Exhibitions with 13 works, of which two were bought by The Austrian Painter. The Fencer, and The Victor, were two of his most well known and highly prized works.
