A pencil drawing of a German machine gunner from Kampfgruppe Hansen photographed on the 18th of December, 1944.
This picture was taken after a fierce ambush against the American 14th Calvary Group on the road between Poteau and Recht, Belgium.
This is definitely the most famous and iconic photo of the Battle of the Bulge, and perhaps the most famous photo of the entire ETO. This soldier is to this day unidentified.
The soldier is heavily armed, carrying ammunition boxes forward, with a belt of machine gun ammunition draped around his neck.
