A pencil drawing of the Memorial “Kriegerfelsen” (English: Warrior Rock) in Laufenburg, Baden, Germany.
The memorial represents an eagle (in bronze) holding a golden Christian cross in its talons. It overlooks a text in large golden letters: “Pro Deo, Fide et Alemannia,” Latin for “For God, Faith and Germany.”
It is dedicated to the victims of the First World War, without distinction. Lists of victims of the First and Second World Wars, citizens of Laufenburg, are engraved in a wall below the monument.
This was donated by Mary Elisabeth Codman née Belknap (1839-1929) after the First World War. On this cliff was a castle from the 12th century until around 1800.
