Designed in 1901 and executed in 1911 by the sculptor Sir Thomas Brock, K.C.B., R.A. (1847-1922). It has a height of 11 feet 6 inches.
Progress, a nobly formed youth, laurel-crowned, semi-draped and bearing a torch in his left hand as he advances with buoyant step. He is supported by a lion which symbolizes power.
