A pencil drawing of Arno Breker’s Prometheus [version 1], 1937.
“The 'Aryan' is the Prometheus of mankind from whose bright forehead the divine spark of genius has sprung at all times, forever kindling anew that fire of knowledge which illumined the night of silent mysteries and thus cause man to climb the path to mastery over other beings of this earth."
Holding the luminous torch of progress gifted to mortals, Prometheus, the moral exemplar and self-sacrificing "hero" who rescued mortals from their own demise, stands here as a monumental symbol.
The hypermasculine nature of this figure indicated by the exaggeration of the musculature in his arms, torso, and legs, demonstrates a clear emphasis on strength in relation to the physical body.
This statue also embodied the Aryan ideal of leading humanity towards a paradisiacal future of purity.
