Α pencil drawing of the central entrance of The New Reich Chancellery (Die Neue Reichkanzlei).
The New Reich Chancellery (Die Neue Reichskanzlei) was a grandiose building that was going to be the center of the new German Empire as it represented the true extent of German power, installing inspiration and awe at all who gazed upon it and entered its halls.
The construction of the building was assigned to architectural visionary Albert Speer who would create a new state-of-the-art headquarters of the German government in Berlin. Beginning in early 1938, the project had taken all of Speer’s time and dedication to work according to the one-year schedule he was given. Over 4,000 workers such as stone masons, carpenters, plumbers, and bricklayers, had to work around the clock in set shifts, day and night, in order to achieve the heavy 421-meter-long target. He was also given a blank cheque, meaning that he essentially had unlimited funds to complete the building. By the end, it had cost 90 million Reichsmarks. For H, there was no price for such a building. If it was going to represent the German government, it was worth everything.
