A pencil drawing of Ernst Wilhelm Kubiena’s “Schwertweihe” - “Sword consecration” statue. Another great example of German Neoclassicism.
Professor Ernst Wilhelm Kubiena (April 12, 1902 - July 20, 1973) was an Austrian academic sculptor.
From 1920 to 1921 he studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, until 1923 at the Academy of Fine Arts and then until 1929 at the master school in Vienna with Franz Barwig senior and Josef Müllner. He became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus and worked there and in the Vienna Secession. Some of his sculptures can be seen in Salzburg, such as the memorial at the communal cemetery commemorating the victims for freedom and human dignity from 1955.
Consecration is the solemn dedication to a special purpose or service.
The word consecration literally means "association with the sacred". Persons, places, or things can be consecrated, and the term is used in various ways by different groups.
The origin of the word comes from the Latin stem consecrat, which means dedicated, devoted, and sacred.
A synonym for to consecrate is to sanctify, a distinct antonym is to desecrate.
